Our Programs & Services
READY! for Kindergarten
READY! for Kindergarten® helps close the achievement gap by engaging parents and caregivers in a child’s early learning. Once available, our READY! for Kindergarten workshops will be free to families of children birth to age 5 in Maricopa County schools offering READY!.
The program helps participants nurture a child’s development using READY!’s Play With a Purpose approach in ways that foster early literacy, math, and social and emotional skills. Parents or caregivers attend a series of three READY! for Kindergarten workshops each year, based on their child’s age. At each workshop, attendees learn fun activities and receive new materials and tools to use at home.
If you are a school district in Maricopa County interested in providing READY! for Kindergarten to families in your district, please contact us.
READ Up: Stop the Summer Slide
School-age children can lose up to three months of reading skills in just one summer. It’s called the summer slide and begins the first week students are out of school.
The READ Up℠ literacy program helps keep reading a part of daily summer routines with free books and fun events. READ Up events are for children from birth to age 8 and their parents or caregivers.
We partner with other local organizations to help deliver READ Up events. Check back each May for our schedule of READ Up events. If you are interested in helping with a READ Up event, contact us today!
First Teacher Library
Teachers are an important partner to help families continue nurturing a child’s literacy skills once school begins. We proudly provide a 75-book library to first-year teachers who are in their first full-time classroom assignment since certification.
Teachers of kindergarten through third grade who teach in Maricopa County qualify.
If you are interested in becoming a sponsor of our First Teacher Library program, please contact us.
Books for Babies
Babies learn every waking minute from birth and reading with them daily is the best way to help stimulate their learning. Through our Books for Babies program, we partner with Phoenix-area companies to provide a new board book and early reading information to the family of every child born in many of our local hospitals.
For more information or if you are interested in sponsoring our Books for Babies program, please reach out to us.
Born to Read
We work with pediatricians, home health nurses and midwives to provide families with free books and share materials about the importance of early literacy and reading with a child for 20 minutes every day, beginning at birth.

All our programs and services aim to educate parents about their vital role as a child’s first and most influential teacher. But families aren’t alone. Schools and communities also have an important role to play to help increase children’s literacy skills. We offer talks and information about the importance of reading, early literacy and brain development.
If you are interested in having someone present to your organization or service club, please email our office.
